While I have been wrapped up in motherhood, I've also been working more on pattern design. I had it in my mind that I wanted a quilt to hang on the wall in Emilio's room - it only took me a year to finally design and make it! Now that it’s done and hung up, I’m so happy with how it really cozies up his room.

Here’s the new pattern! It's called August and it's a bear paw quilt pattern with a unique layout. There are two size options: baby (45” x 50”) and large throw (64" x 70"), with three color options for each size: mix + match, one color block or two tone.
Emilio's quilt is the baby size with the mix + match color variation.
This pattern works up pretty quickly because you're only making eight blocks!

Because of the amount of negative space in this design, I wanted to give it a nice, wide binding to help frame it in. I cut my strips at 3 1/2" and used a 1/2" seem allowance instead of 1/4". I also cut up some leftovers from the bear paw blocks to 3 1/2" x 7 1/2" to make the binding. I did a visible whip stitch to sew it down on the back. I love how it completes the quilt!

I also made up the large throw in the two tone color variation. The bear paws look so pretty in the floral!

Here are more color variation ideas!
