Tapestry Curtain Tutorial

I've been searching and searching for the perfect fabric to make curtains for my sewing room. I couldn't make a decision until I saw these tapestries! I know its a bit unusual, but I knew they would make perfect curtains.

MATERIALS

  • One spool of Aurifil 50wt thread in White 2024
  • One tapestry per window (the tapestries I used are 87 x 82 inches, and my windows are 44 inches wide)

You will also need:

  • A ruler
  • Pins
  • A walking foot for the sewing machine
  • Iron

SEW

Find the top of the tapestry. With the wrong side up, fold top edge down 3 inches toward the wrong side - this measurement includes 1 1/2 inches for the rod pocket and 1 1/2 inches for the ruffle above the rod. If your curtain rod is larger, or you want a different size ruffle, adjust the fold accordingly. Press the fold and pin in place.

With a 1/8 inch seam allowance, stitch pinned edge to create the first pocket.

Next, stitch 1 1/2 inches from the top folded edge. This will complete the two pockets (one for the rod and the ruffle on top).

Press the tapestry curtains and thread the curtain rod through the second pocket. Repeat this process for the other tapestry.

That's it! Enjoy your new, unique, beautiful curtains!
